Why should we mark the Centenary?
2007, the
100th anniversary of Scouting, is an opportunity for us to demonstrate
the unique value of Scouting to the world and to celebrate the
achievements of 100 years of Scouting. The anniversary not only
celebrates the past 100 years but is the dawn of a new century
of Scouting. We celebrate the future of Scouting and look to
how we can improve it to meet the needs of even more young people,
their families and communities world-wide.
• 2007 will be a whole
year of celebration with no one date being the sole focus.
• The 21st World Scout Jamboree will be hosted by The Scout
Association (UK). It will take place in Hylands Park, Essex,
and aims to welcome 40,000 participants.
• August 1st Celebration - Sunrise

On 1 August 2007, all Scouts and former Scouts, in all WOSM member countries
around the world, will celebrate the dawn of a new century of Scouting
by renewing their promise 100 years from the day when Baden- Powell ran
the first ever Scout camp on Brownsea Island. Starting from Kiribati, Kamchatka,
Fiji and New Zealand with Scouts living nearest the international date
line, and sweeping westwards round the globe through to Alaska and Hawaii
and back to the date line again, as the sun rises Scouts will welcome our
second century and renew their Promise.
