Purpose
This subcommittee of the International Committee offers the Scouting
program to U.S. citizens and their dependents who live in countries
that are outside the jurisdiction of the Transatlantic Council
(headquartered in Germany, serving U.S. Scouts in most of Europe)
and the Far East Council (headquartered in Japan, serving U.S.
Scouts in several Far East nations).
Administration
Direct Service is administered by the International
Division of
the Boy Scouts of America at the national office in Irving, Texas.
It provides such services as processing registration and magazine
subscriptions, maintaining records, approving advancements, processing
supply orders, organizing national and world jamboree participation,
operating an Order of the Arrow lodge, and providing information
and program resources. Direct Service serves Cub Scout packs, Boy
Scout troops, Varsity Scout teams, Venturing crews, and Lone Scouts
in 43 countries on five continents. The chartered organizations
of Direct Service include American schools and religious organizations,
international schools, military groups, U.S. embassies, multinational
corporations, parents' groups, and fraternal organizations. The
